NSG 438 - discharge tips

August 2006

Our complete set of optional discharge tips helps to simplify test procedures and fulfill special test requirements.

INA 4411 – ESD tip for fast rise times
Real world ESD phenomena can involve fast discharge current rise times of up to 400ps. While these faster phenomena are mentioned in the equipment-level standards, the standards only specify rise times in the range of 700ps – 1ns. This optional tip can
generate rise times of less than 400ps, allowing investigation of high frequency
phenomena beyond the standards.

INA 4417 – Tip with multifunctional banana connector
This versatile tip features a 4mm socket for standard laboratory banana plugs, making it suitable for a wide variety of applications. The tip is also supplied with a set of
interchangeable contact adaptors. We also offer the INA 4418, which is the fast rise time version of the INA 4417.

INA 4413 – Remote discharge tip with interchangeable resistors
The INA 4413 features a flexible cable and small tip size that allow the operator to carry out tests in locations that are difficult to access with the entire hand held simulator. The tip also allows the energy to be controlled by means of interchangeable resistors. In these situations it is not essential to maintain the true ESD pulse shape.

INA 4415 – Flexible test tip set
This test tip set was developed specifically for testing in difficult to reach places while maintaining discharge pulse shape integrity. The set includes a pointed test tip for working in contact discharge mode and a test finger with an IEC cone shape for air
discharge testing.

These highly flexible tips allow the user to keep the operating and display panel of the ESD simulator in ideal viewing position at all times during the test. All of the ESD
simulator’s functions are available with the tip installed. Measurements taken on an IEC or ISO compliant calibration test system reveal that, even with the additional length, the pulse data obtained for contact discharges are very similar to those achieved with standard tips. These tips may also be used with any other NSG 438 discharge network.

INA 4416 – Spring-loaded contact tip for pinpoint precision testing

The INA 4416 is a spring-loaded “pogo pin” tip that has been specifically designed for

connector contact testing. This tip allows delicate contacts to be precisely selected and protected from mechanical stress during testing. This tip is compliant with the discharge pulse specification in IEC 61000-4-2.

The INA 4415 and 4416 test tips are delivered with a traceable ISO 17025 calibration

certificate.

We also develop custom accessories to aid and simplify the construction of

special test setups.
